Step Back in Time This Summer at the Wilcox House and Barn
143 Simsbury Road, West Granby
New this year: open-hearth cooking!
The Salmon Brook Historical Society is excited to welcome visitors back to the historic Wilcox House and Barn with something new—live open-hearth cooking demonstrations. Step into the kitchen of the early 1800s and see how meals were prepared over an open fire. It's a rare, immersive experience that brings history to life!
Returning this year is the popular weaving demonstration on the fully restored four-post loom, showcasing traditional textile work that was a vital part of 19th-century home life.
The Captain Sadoce Wilcox House, built c.1800, and the Lyman Wilcox Barn, built c.1857, are part of the West Granby Historic District. Donated to the Historical Society by the Granby Land Trust in 2019, the property remained in the same family for six generations. With much of its original character preserved, the house offers a unique window into the daily life of Granby's early farmers and artisans.
Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours, with knowledgeable volunteers on-site to answer questions and demonstrate historical practices.
A $5 donation is appreciated to help support ongoing preservation and programming.
