Paintings During This Period:

In 1870, Shattuck bought a farm in West Granby, Connecticut. It is here that he raised prize sheep and cattle. H.W. French's 1879 book of Art and Artists in Connecticut cites the following “The artist is a faithful student of his art, and at present makes a specialty of sheep and cows, where he excels many and is excelled by few”. This period is also filled with local Granby scenes.
